Ask anyone—we're obsessed with finding perfectly insightful statistics and patterns that make everything crystal clear. But it was actually our love of conversations that drove us to build Topsy.

As social media became the world's conversation, we were fascinated by the possibilities and seemingly endless value that could be derived from the real–time, public interactions happening on the social web. So we created Topsy to harness, at scale, the world's conversation. In the same way that search engines index webpages, Topsy indexes conversations—nearly half a billion of them every single day and half a trillion overall going back to 2006.

Simply storing that much data would have been a challenge—but our goal wasn't just to build an archive. We wanted to put this information at the fingertips of marketers, researchers, educators, and anyone who needed to gather, measure, and analyze real–time or historical insights using the largest possible data source. We also add value by enriching these conversations with influencer information, sentiment analysis, and geo–location.

Fast forward to today: the world's largest brands use Topsy to analyze their real–time marketing efforts, manage their brand on social channels, and locate their next big idea. Media and entertainment companies use Topsy in their second–screen efforts, and research institutions use Topsy to predict and track disease outbreaks.
